SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Born in Ghent, Belgium, into a family with rich musical traditions and Colombian-Russian heritage, Pablo Laporev discovered his passion for the cello at an early age. He began his studies with his father, Ilia Laporev Sr., and Vladimir Perlin, later honing his skills under the Belgian pedagogue Hans Mannes. As a precollege student at the Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp, he studied with France Springuel and Justus Grimm, before continuing his education at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with Johannes Moser and Maria Kliegel. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree at the Mozarteum in Salzburg under Giovanni Gnocchi.

Pablo has participated in masterclasses with distinguished cellists, including Jérôme Pernoo, Gautier Capuçon, and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt. His achievements include the Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz scholarship and 3rd prize at the International Cello Competition VŠMU in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Chamber music is central to his artistry, shaped by guidance from Harald Schoneweg, Connie Shih, and others. Renowned for his rich tone, heartfelt expression, and stylistic versatility, Pablo’s repertoire spans baroque to contemporary works.

He performs on a 1915 Dante Baldoni cello with a Charles Louis Bazin bow.
