SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Jānis Rinkulis began his musical journey and cello studies at the Emīls Dārziņš Music School, graduating in 2024, where he studied under teacher Ivars Bezprozvanovs. He is currently studying at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in the cello class of Associate Professor Ēriks Kiršfelds.
His strong interest in music and his instrument blossomed during high school, followed by various musical achievements, including 1st place in the National Competition in 2023, 3rd place in the Valdis Vikmanis Competition, the LSO Audience Award, and an invitation for further collaboration as a soloist, as well as the Emīls Dārziņš Music School Award in 2024, among others.
In the past two years, Jānis has had the opportunity to gain experience as a soloist, collaborating with the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Guntis Kuzma (performing Antonín Dvořák's Cello Concerto at the 31st International Star Festival opening concert, as well as three New Year's Eve concerts featuring Spanish music miniatures), the Emīls Dārziņš Music School Orchestra under conductor Andris Vecumnieks (performing Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto), and the LUPO Wind Orchestra under conductor Jānis Puriņš (performing Jānis Ivanovs' Cello Concerto).
