Denis Shapovalov

Denis Shapovalov won recognition for his exceptional musical gift at the XI International Tchaikovsky Competition, taking the 1st prize and the gold medal.


Maestro Rostropovich invited Shapovalov to perform in Russia, France, Great Britain, and USA. Denis participated in the concert series celebrating Rostropovich’s 75th birthday in New York and London. Shapo has enjoyed big success as a conductor with dozens of leading symphony orchestras.

In 2016 Shapo discovered his composer’s talent which was highly acclaimed by both critics and audiences. He has performed his compositions at the international festivals in Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Romania, Poland, Serbia, Montenegro, Lithuania, and Georgia.

Besides the widest academic repertoire, both for cello and orchestral, Shapo maintains his interest to rock music, inventing exclusive programs to attract new audiences. The projects are always met with ovations.


Denis Shapovalov was born in city Tchaikovsky in the Ural Mountains. Graduated from the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (cello performance, opera and symphony conducting). Shapo is the first academic musician to give a solo concert at the North Pole. Since March 2022 Denis Shapovalov resides in Italy and is teaching at Perosi Academy of Music.
